Craft Shows

We ended up with 114 spaces filled. There was nothing but positive comments from the crafters. The bake sale made $840.50 and the Craffle table made $333.50. We also made $163 with the 50/50 drawing and the winner donated $100 of his winnings back to the club. We had help from the scouts, the construction technology class, NHS, the Leadership Club, and the business classes. We donated $200 to the scouts, $150 to NHS, and $50 to the Leadership Club. The business classes and the construction technology class were given spaces at no cost. I requested Oct. 19 for the fall show and March 15, 2025 for the spring show.

 

Service Projects

The next work date at the Akron-Canton Food Bank (Akron) is 5/4. Contact John Ferris at rev.ferris@gmail.com) if you can help. We will meet at Aldi’s at 7:45 AM. A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank is scheduled for 4/19 at 1 PM. We have collected enough plastic for another bench and are donating it to Walsh College.We will continue to collect plastic and donate it to The Chorus For A Cause since they helped us achieve our goal. We can’t start another collection until October. At the State Convention May 17-19, they are looking for jars of peanut butter for a food insecurity project. The goal is 1000 jars. We will continue to collect change at the meetings for the Governor’s change project and for CommQuest. The bagging of dogwood trees took place on 4/18 at Mary Puperi’s. There were 10 of us there and we bagged approximately 300 trees for North Canton and St Paul’s 4th graders. You missed some of Mary’s great homemade cinnamon rolls if you weren’t there.

 

Donations

A total of $250 was donated to the Cavs Cave (for food insecurity) and the Cavs Corner (their used clothing store) at Walsh College. A donation of $200 was made to Friends of Stark Parks. We made donations of $1650 to the Parade of Checks. Donations of $100 were made to Samaritan’s Purse and Habitat to Humanity as memorial gifts to Darin.

District Convention

The District Convention was held March 22 – 23 at the Holiday Inn at Belden Village. Lion Bill Humphrey was elected District Governor Elect.

 

Winter Party

The Winter Party was held on March 9 from 6 – 8:30 PM at the Acme Community Room. Fifteen attended. Food, fun, and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

Scholarship

Five applications were received. A winner has been chosen and will be acknowledged at a high school event.

 

Bequest

We received a donation of $3000 from the Don Gray estate and are looking for ways to use it.

 

Membership

We continue to have a booth at the Farmer’s market on two Wednesdays a month. Remember to Ask One, Get One, and Keep One.

Dues are $70 for individuals or $120 for couples and can be given or sent to Joan.

Craft Shows

The next craft show will be 03/16/24. We have 95 spaces paid for so far, another 8 vendors indicated they are attending, and some outstanding applications that haven’t been returned., I have lined up help from the scouts, the construction technology class, NHS, the Leadership Club, and the business classes. There will be a girls’ basketball tournament the day of the show. Also, we are going to try a 50/50 drawing at the show.

Service Projects

The next work date at the Akron-Canton Food Bank (Akron) is 3/2. Contact John Ferris at rev.ferris@gmail.com) if you can help. We will meet at Aldi’s at 7:45 AM. A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank is scheduled for 1/16 at 1 PM. We continue to collect plastic. The current total is 738 pounds. We are only allowed to get one bench a year now and we need 1000 pounds of plastic. We screen 75 pre-school children with 12 referrals. At the State Convention in May, they are looking for jars of peanut butter for a food insecurity project. The goal is 1000 jars. We will continue to collect change at the meetings for the Governor’s change project and for CommQuest. The bagging of dogwood trees will take place on 4/18 at Mary Puperi’s.

Fundraisers

Happy New Year!

My apologies. This is the first newsletter I have sent out this Lions year. Hopefully I’ll do better the rest of the year. This edition will provide some of the highlights of the year so far.

 

Craft Shows

The next craft show will be 03/16/24. We have 38 spaces paid for so far and another 20 vendors indicated they are attending. For those of you that didn’t get the results of the fall show, the craffle table net was $349, the bake sale net was $815, and the concession net was $727. We received help from the scouts, the construction technology class, NHS, the Leadership Club, and the business classes.

Service Projects, Fund Raisers, and Donations

The next work date at the Akron-Canton Food Bank (Akron) is 2/3. Contact John Ferris at rev.ferris@gmail.com) if you can help. We will meet at Fisher’s at 7:45 AM. A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank is scheduled for 1/19 at 1 PM. We continue to collect plastic. The current total is 424 pounds. We are only allowed to get one bench a year now and we need 1000 pounds of plastic. We participated in the Main Street Festival and took vegetables from Maria’s garden to the North Canton Food Pantry. We didn’t ring the bell for the Salvation Army this year because of scheduling miscommunication. We received a thank you note from the Uniontown Lions for our contribution of 937 pairs of eyeglasses. We have made donations of $500 to Gigi’s Playhouse and to the North Canton Police Department for their support dog Kona, and continue to support Commquest. At Christmas, we purchased requested gifts for four North Canton School children, Remember to support District Governor Janet’s change collection at meetings, The proceeds will go to pediatric cancer.

 

Christmas Party

The Christmas party was held on Dec. 2 at the Massillon Women’s Club. There was a $5 ornament exchange and we sang carols. A good time was had by all.

Corn Roast

The corn roast will be at Humphrey’s on 8/22 at
6:00. Their address is 2212 Vixen St NW, North Canton 44720. Bring your own table
service. A signup sheet for other items needed will be sent out.

collecting for another bench on 06/13. On May 13 we held a Candy Day at Acme in
North Canton and made $170.15. We upped the amount to $200 and donated the
money to the North Canton Cares Food Pantry. We donated $300 to a family in
Peru that Maria told us about.

Memorial Day Parade

The Memorial Day parade was held on May 29.
Thanks to those who helped in the parking lot, shoveled behind the horses, and
handed out flags. Another fine parade Howard!

 

Steak Fry

The steak fry will be at Vandegrift’s on 6/27 at
6:00. Their address is 2241 University Ave NW, Canton 44709. Bring your own
table service. If you haven’t signed up yet and want to attend, contact me
ASAP.

Craft Shows

Another successful craft show was held on March 25,
2023. We had 91 crafters and 113 spaces used. The concession stand made $1229
(before expenses), the craffle table made $288, and the bake sale made $696.
Our net from the show was $5604. We received help from NHS, the leadership
class, the boy scouts, and the construction technology class and gave each a
donation. We received a lot of positive feedback from the crafters about the
show. Thanks to all that helped.

Service Projects, Fund Raisers, and Donations

(Akron) is 5/6. Contact John Ferris at rev.ferris@gmail.com) if you can help. We will meet at
Fisher’s at 7:45 AM. A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food
Bank is scheduled for 5/26 at 1 PM. Continue to collect plastic and bring it to
me or a club meeting. We started collecting for another bench on 12/7.
Currently we have 387 pounds collected. We bagged dogwood trees on 4/20 at Mary
Puperi’s for all the North Canton 4th graders. A gift of $250 was sent
to Gigi’s Playhouse for their run/walk. Besides our donations made to the
Parade of Checks at the District Convention, a $200 donation was made to St.
Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. On May 13 we will hold a Candy Day at Acme
in North Canton.

On May 19, a ceremony will be held at 2:00 at our
planting area in Price Park to commemorate the recent updates made to our area.

is needed in the parking lot, shoveling behind the horses, and handing out

District Cabinet Meeting

On 2/19, it was my responsibility as Second Vice District Governor to have our club set up the luncheon and collect money for the lunch at the door. The lunch was catered but we needed to set up some snacks prior to the meeting and serve the lunch. Thanks to Sandy Humphrey, Bennett and Linda Kann, John Ferris, and Dave Greek for helping.

 

District Convention

I will be attending the District Convention and passing out checks for the Parade of Checks. The Second Vice District Governor’s club is responsible for providing food for one of the hospitality rooms either Friday or Saturday night. I will pass on more information when things are finalized.

 

Winter Party

The Winter Party was held on 2/11 at LaPizzeria with 20 people attending. We played some games and had a white elephant gift exchange. A good time was had by all.

A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank is scheduled for 1/20 at 1 PM. Continue to collect plastic and bring it to me or a club meeting. We started collecting for another bench on 12/7.  We rang the bell for the Salvation Army from 9 – 3 on 12/3 at the North Canton Acme. We collected $371.95. Good job everyone! Rather than taking item collections for CommQuest at the meetings, we will be passing a donation jar around and sending them the monies periodically. We adopted a family for Christmas. Initially we were going to purchase two bicycles, but someone else donated them. We purchased other gifts instead. At the 12/13 meeting, North Canton Police Chief Frank Kemp indicated they were looking to buy a therapy dog to benefit the community and the schools. Lion Joe Chevraux offered to help with the purchase up to an amount of $2500. The club also voted to donate $1000 for any items the dog might need. At the 1/10 meeting it was voted to send The Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band $220 towards expenses to march at the International Convention in July in Boston.

The Christmas party was held on 12/3 at the Canton Women’s Club. After dinner we had a gift exchange and sang carols. Even though we had a good time, reservations were made at the Massillon Women’s Club for this year.

Craft Shows

The totals for our show on 10/15 were: the concession stand $857.83, the bake sale $559.50, and the craffle table $307. For helping, we donated $300 to the Hoover High Leadership Club, $150 to the scout troop, and $50 to National Honor Society based on the amount of hours each group helped. The school bill for custodian hours and table rental has been paid. The next show will be March 25, 2023.

A work date at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank is scheduled for 11/18 at 1 PM. Continue to collect plastic and bring it to me or a club meeting. We collected another 500 pound of plastic and have ordered a third bench. We can start collecting for another bench on 12/7.  We will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army from 9 – 3 on 12/3 at the North Canton Acme. Contact Mike Knepp if you wish to help. A donation of $150 was given to the North Canton Cares Summit Pantry. We will be purchasing two bicycles for the family we adopted for Christmas.

 

November Meetings

           as the speaker. Darin Hinderer was inducted as 1st VP and Sam Maxon-Kann was

           inducted as a new member. Thanks for stepping up Darin and welcome Sam!

11/22 – Regular meeting – Fun Night – bring an apple or a dollar. Also, three facts about

             yourself, two true and one false.

 

Christmas Party

The Christmas party will be held on 12/3 at the Canton Women’s Club starting at 5:30 with some social time and dinner at 6:00. The main entrée choices are stuffed pork chop and chicken parmesan. The dessert choices are chocolate or cherry pie. The cost is $20 per person. The club will pick up the cost over $20. There will be an optional gift exchange. If you haven’t signed up at a meeting, contact Peggy Hayward and let her know if you are attending, and what main entrée and dessert you would like. Please get your money to Peggy at the next meeting or drop your money off at her house by 11/22.

Our fall show will be 10/15. There are 70 spaces paid for, another 17 are spoken for. And I am waiting on responses from 52 crafters I sent application to. I sent information to the Repository for publication.

Corn Roast

The corn roast will be held on 8/23 at 6:00 at the Humphrey’s. Bring your own table service. If you have someone in mind to bring to a future meeting, ask them to come along.

 

Main Street Festival

We will have a booth at the Main St Festival on 8/13 from 10 AM to 8 PM. Contact Larry Gray if you can work a time slot in the booth. We will hand out balloons, candy, and Lion’s literature. There will be games for children to play.

 

Park Maintenance

An initial cleanup of our planting area was done on May 14. The schedule for August is:

Bennett has been working with the city and the executor of Don Gray’s estate to update our area at Price Park. He presented drawings at the board meeting and the board approved the final plans. Hopefully the project will be completed this fall.

Bennett has taken 3 batches of vegetables to Meals on Wheels and one batch to the Summit Church Food Pantry on Pittsburg Rd.

Steak Fry

The steak fry was held on 6/28 at 6:00 at the
Vandegrift’s with 24 people present. The scholarship winner, Christos Ganios,
and his mom and dad attended. The officers for 2022-23 were sworn in by 2VDGe
Bill Humphrey. A good time was had by all. Thanks again to Leroy and Rosemary
for hosting.

 

Main Street Festival

items for prisoners being released from jail. Any of the following items can
continue to be collected for CommQuest and taken to the Ferris’s.

Memorial Day Parade

Thanks to all that helped with the parade.
Approximately 1000 flags were handed out. Thanks to Howard for chairing this

District Baseball Game

The District Social Committee has planned an
outing to an Akron Rubberducks game on 7/30 at 7:05. Tickets are $12 and the
money is due by 7/1. I will find out where to send the money. People will be
meeting at the Spaghetti Warehouse prior to the game. There will also be
fireworks after the game.

The scholarship committee has selected a
recipient. Scott Hayward presented the award to Christos Ganios. He and his

Craft Shows

We had the spring show on 3/26/22. We had 97 spaces occupied with 94 paid for plus 3 additional spaces (one for Maria and one for the construction tech class and one for the Girl Scouts).  We received help from the construction tech class, National Honor Society, and a local boy scout troop. The board voted to give the scouts $200 and the other two groups $150. The bake sale made $615, the craffle table made $223, and the concession stand made $798. Thanks to all that helped make this another successful show.

 

Service Projects, Fund Raisers, and Donations

Maria, Scott and I went to the Akron-Canton Food Bank (Akron) on 4/2. The next work date at the Akron-Canton Food Bank (Akron) is 5/7. Contact John Ferris at rev.ferris@gmail.com) if you can help. We will meet at Fisher’s at 7:45 AM. Opportunities are available to help at the Canton branch of the Akron-Canton Food Bank also. Continue to collect plastic and bring it to me or a club meeting. We completed our 500 pounds for a second bench but are helping the Chorus for A Cause earn a second bench. Our second bench has been ordered. We can start collecting for a new bench on 6/1. Donations were made to Gigi’s Playhouse ($1000), an organization that helps individuals with Down’s syndrome, to LCIF Disaster Relief ($2500) for the Ukraine, and to a benefit sponsored by the Hubbard Lions for a young man with Batten’s disease, which is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder ($100). We bagged 365 dogwood trees on April 7 to be distributed to Orchard Hill, Greentown, and St. Paul’s schools. We are planning to have a Candy Day in May. Items for Kentucky will be taken to the District Social on May 7. Contact me if you need a list of items they are collecting. Any of the following items can continue to be collected for CommQuest and taken to the Ferris’s.
